Remarks
" There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man, by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or inn. " The Lennox Inn, once known as the Lennox Tavern and Inn, was built as a residence and roadhouse in 1791. It is the oldest British-Colonial, continuously operating Inn in Canada. Constructed by Andreas Jung in 1791, it was later purchased by John Lennox in 1804. Being the largest Georgian structure in the UNESCO town of Lunenburg, this home offers in excess of 3,700 square feet of living space on three floors with potential for an additional 1,000 sq. ft. or more in the basement which houses what was once the principle kitchen with the remains of a large, beehive oven behind an open, 18th century cooking fireplace. The generous front entry hall features what was once a dry goods store to the left, and large tavern to the right. The former secondary kitchen is at the rear of the tavern behind a wooden-caged bar, and there is a bedroom across the hall from the kitchen at the rear of the house. The second floor features four bedrooms and three baths off a wide hallway. The third floor is a large space with two storage rooms with potential for two additional bedrooms . The basement has the beginnings of a bathroom with the potential of further finished living space. This property has a good sized garden area with room for a garage if one desired. The house is situated in a quiet part of the historic district and is a comfortable stroll to shopping and the old waterfront, set in a streetscape of other historic buildings. The restoration is sensitive to the period, and the building itself is considered amongst the most significant in Lunenburg with nine fireplaces still in tact, original lime plastered walls, original wood floors and wood paneling and trim. Potential for six guest rooms, separate owner's quarters and additional space ideal for any number of commercial or cultural activities. The B&B comes fully furnished and outfitted. (id:22211)
